What’s the use of Biomedical thermal sheets?

Biomedical production includes Biotherm line made of thermal sheets with high protection against hypothermia. They are prepared for the pre and/or post-operative phase, for the first aid and for patient transports.

What is Janus made for?

Many endoscopic examinations (as TEE, bronchoscopy, gastroscopy, fiberoscopy) require to pass through the mouth or the nose of patients to make diagnosis or treatment in a partially non-invasive way.
As a consequence of the high level of pain and emotional discomfort caused to the patients by non-sedated procedures, the majority of procedures is performed under sedation, sometimes (depending on the legislation of the country in which they are performed) without the presence of an anesthetist.
In these cases, the risk of pulmonary depression is high; the cardio-respiratory complications connected to the procedure have an high incidence and can cause the interruption of the exam. To enable the possibility of ventilation of the patient in case of necessity, doctors all around the world recur to non-invasive ventilation. Traditional non-invasive ventilation masks do not have accesses for the probes.
As a consequence, if the patient needs to be vented during an ongoing exam, the procedure has to be interrupted. In that case, usually, the analysis is postponed to not cause any damage to the mucous membranes of the pharynx or larynx of the patient.
It is, therefore, a waste of time and money, and it causes severe discomfort to the patient.
Futhermore, the act of interrupting the procedure is dangerous, because carefully removing the probe takes time while the patient has to be vented immediately.
Presently, there are some non-invasive ventilation masks with an access for the probe, but those masks have to be inserted on the probe before the start of the procedure in order to be used. Unfortunately, since there is no way to predict which patient will need to be vented, those disposable masks have to be used for each patient with the result of having an high percentage of waste.
Biomedical’s solution is Janus: a non-invasive ventilation mask that can be applied during ongoing endoscopic procedures in emergency situation.
This is a patented system able to support ventilation in a few seconds in patients with nasal or oral endoscopic  probes without the need of removing them and interrupting the examination.
Our mask is made of two symmetrical parts that can be divided in order to place it on the patient even if endoscopic probes are already inserted.
Once it is assembled, it displays two holes, one for the oxygen/air mixture or for the ventilation, the other for the endoscopic probe that is already positioned with the patient.
As soon as the ventilation is not required anymore, the mask can be opened and removed.
As a consequence, it can be used only whenever needed, just in case patients really need ventilation,
solving any kind of waste and so reducing  hospital costs.
This mask is suitable for all endoscopic probes of any size and it is provided with both nasal and oral port.
Safety, efficacy, patient and clinician’s comfort are thus improved.
There is no risk of respiratory depression, no waste of time and reduction of hospital cost.

What’s the importance of using SNAP to patients which are unable to swallow independently?

Antibiotic pills are used for therapies in hospitals all over the world.
Quite often, pills must be administered to patients which, for pathological or psychological reasons, are unable to swallow.
The nursing staff, with great loss of time,  is then forced to recur to “handcrafted” solutions  to administer the drug:
a common one consists in crushing the pill into a piece of gauze, then overthrowing the content  into a glass of water to aspirate it with a syringe and finally injecting it into the patient’s nutritional line.
In other cases, the ward buys drugs in vials to be administered via intramuscular injections, but this approach has two complications:
the cost of vials,  which can overrun by 500% the cost of pills for the same antibiotic, the many drawbacks of intermuscular injections which, according to the guiding lines of the World Health Organization, should be performed only if necessary.
The disposable product we offer, named SNAP is a single-patient device , which allows to administer antibiotic pills even to patients fed by enteral tube, by a naso-gastric tube, or to patients which are uncooperative or generally debilitated, which would suffer from repeated injections, ensuring the staff  that the 100% of the drug has been administered and, therefore, that the protocols have been respected.

Why is it better using a Pencil Point needle to perform a spinal anesthesia?

The spinal anesthesia consists in injecting the anesthetic liquid inside the “dura mater”, which is the outermost membrane around the spinal cord which protects the mallow. It is a very delicate membrane which protects a positive pressure space. Damaging the membrane with a sharpened needle would cause a leakage of cerebrospinal fluid responsible of  severe post-anesthesia headaches (the pain can last days). That is the reason why it is better using needles without a sharpened tip (Pencil Point) that are able to penetrate the dura mater’s fibers without causing any damage.

 

Can Biomedical’s ENS needles be used with electro stimulation devices from other brands?

Yes, the cable’s connection is universal 18. What’s the importance of using PTFE as an insulating material?
PTFE has many properties besides its high electrical resistance,  such as self-lubrication, low light reflection, resistance to high temperatures and to extreme chemical conditions. It is also biocompatible and offers an excellent ultrasound visibility.

Why do Biomedical’s ENS needles have three different kind of tips?

Each tip has its own features that do not, however, modify the functionality of the needle. Choosing one instead of another depends on the manual skills and habits of the physician. Having three different kind of tips allows Biomedical to always meet the user’s needs.

Why do ENS needles have two different kinds of sharpening?

ENS needles work by locating the nerve plexus via the transmission of electrical impulses, and then by injecting the anesthetic in its proximity. The risk of this procedure could be the one of puncturing the nerve, damaging it. That is the reason why some physicians prefer less sharpened needles (30° angle) even when this means having to use a scalpel to introduce the needle. Other physicians prefer using a more sharpened needle with a greater capacity of insertion. The choice lays on the physicians preferences. Anyhow, Biomedical can modify the sharpening of the tip to meet  any different requests.

 

 

 

Why do Verres needles have four different kind of tips?

Verres needles allow safe crossing of  human body parietal walls, reducing the risk of damaging the underlying bowels. In fact, in the internal free space between the walls and the bowels, a security protection spring snaps obturating the cutting edge.
This needle is used for percutaneous drainage in paracentesis and thoracentesis interventions.
The three kinds of tips can meet any requirements coming from the physician  These are the following:
-AVA Open tip with a lateral window on the mandrel and a hole in the cannula
-AVB Closed tip with 2 lateral holes.
-AVC Closed tip with 3 lateral windows.
The more holes, the more drainage power.
This needle can also be used for insufflations of CO during laparoscopy surgery. Iin that case, the AVC version is preferred. For major safety, for this specific application, we produces the version with 30° sharpening (AVCQ). In this way the tip is more resistant and less traumatic with the intent of reducing the small share of risk related to its use.

What is the purpose of dilators in the galactography kit (cod. IDK)?

Galactography is a particular X-ray of the breast to study the lactiferous ducts, which are the structures devoted to the production of breast milk.
Lactiferous ducts are not able to absorb X-rays unless they are filled with a substance called contrast medium. To allow the injection of the contrast medium inside the ducts, in the case of a milk duct orifices smaller than the needle’s cannula, it is necessary to dilate the orifice with the dilators we provide.

 

What is the difference between the single hook (cod. IM) and the double hook (cod. IMX) in needles for the localization of non-palpable breast nodules?

The localization technique consists in the insertion, in proximity of the non-palpable nodule, of a wire with a hooked extremity that unfolds only when it comes out from the tip of the guiding needle, anchoring itself to the mammary tissue. During the surgery, the surgeon easily reaches the nodule by following the wire. Since the moment of the anchoring, some time passes by. If that time is short, a single hooked needle is enough. If the time is longer, it would be better to choose a double hooked needle because an object inside the human body tends to drift and therefore needs a major anchoring to the tissue.

 

What are the advantages of the Chiba needle over a Quincke needle?

The tip of a Quincke needle presents a double sharpening and therefore allows only a easy and slight penetration; The Chiba tip presents a special triple sharpening that allows the needle to follow a straight trajectory inside the body, avoiding the tipical bending that occurs with differently sharpened needles. Chiba needles are more precise and this is a fundamental cfeature for all the procedures requiring an high level of safety.

Why is the liver biopsy perfermed with a Menghini needle?

The Menghini needle has a sharpened cannula  and allows the extraction of tissue frustules that are retained inside the cannula thanks to the vacuum created by the suction mechanism.
This needle is used in liver biopsy procedure because the organ is highly vascularized and such a less traumatic instrument is preferable to the guillotine sharpened needles. It prevents internal bleeding and allows the extraction of long and compact frustules. Using this needle means ecreasing the risk of the fragmentation of the frustules even in case of cirrhosis.

 

What are the strengths of the disposable automatic gun Bioshot?

The Bioshot gun can be used with only one hand, leaving the other free for the possible use of an ultrasound probe. It allows to choose between two different sampling lengths and has two triggers for performing the biopsy always from the most comfortable position. Furthermore, the needle can be used either automatically or semi-automatically, depending on the pressure exerted on triggers.

 

​What is the difference between BD and BDP needles?

The BD needle has an external and removable cannula, while the BDP is its version for coaxial biopsy with an introducer needle. It has only one cannula, but two mandrels, one of which is welded to the handle of the  guillotine needle and the other is inside the cannula for the introduction.

What is the difference between the needles BD and BDS?

The BD needle has and external and removable cannula as well as a spacer for stereotactic procedures, while BDS is the needle in its simplified version.

 

Which is the reason to buy Biocut instead of the other biopsy guns of competitors that are in the market?

Biocut guns are essential  both in design and operating way.
Firing power is very high: those guns shot with a power of  5Kg.
Moreover, the price is not high to allow a minimum markup on needle price to the hospital.

 

Which is the difference between PG needle and BE needle?

PG needle is used with Biocut-M gun and it is the smallest and lightest version.
BE needle is used with Biocut-C gun.

 

Why it is better using the bone biopsy needle in the version avoiding the deflection technique?

BLT device, allowing the deflection technique, guarantees to take a better quality frustule because it traps it inside the conical cavity of the cannula in order to not damage it.
Avoiding the deflection technique means to relieve the patient’s pain.
Between the advantages of the user not only you have a safer withdrawal of bone marrow but also the procedure is simplified and a there is a reduction of the procedure time .

Which is the difference between a bone medullar aspiration and an explant and which kind of needle is used?

A medullar aspiration is a medical exam for diagnostic purpose consisting in a removal of bone marrow to be analyzed in laboratory. The needle to be used is BI, available in the pre- assembled version or the not-assembled one.
Explants is a bone marrow removal  from a donor. The quantity removed changes in relation with the body volume of the person receiving it even if normally it is between 700 and 1000 ml.  Needles that are used are similar to the ones used for the biopsy: only the cannula changes having lateral holes closed to the tip for a better liquid aspiration (cod. BIE).

Versions with anatomic grip ( cod. BIL e BILE) are pre-assembled or not?

They are not assembled. On the other hand, on request, Biomedical provides those kind of needles also in the pre-assembled version.

Why Biomedical insert in the proper product line, the iliac-sternal aspiration needle also in the non pre-assembled version (cod. BI)?

Iliac-sternal aspiration needles are made of a plastic part detachable from the handle which is screwed on a ring nut with depth marks . It allows to  modify the length of the free cannula entering into the patient. This plastic part can be completely removed from the handle allowing to get the longest length of free cannula. In any case, the ring nut assembled to the handle uses part of the free cannula length. This is the reason why  Biomedical decided to add its line the non assemble version of  this kind of needle (cod. BI). Whenever the doctor needs the  maximum length of the cannula, he won’t assemble the ring nut to the handle but he will remove it  completely to use the needle. Otherwise, it will simply assemble it (with a simply click). On the other hand, also the pre-assembled version (cod.BIP) exists.

What are the features of the absorbent sheets?

The sheet line includes Bioabsorb products, absorbent carpets made of a special paper and an anti-slip film. Its capability of absorbing liquids guarantees hygiene, essential in the operating room.
